I drove out to my mom's cabin Sunday morning/day 356 to help her with some things around the place and to let Kip get a good run in. It was a beautiful day out, a nice sunny day to make the gray dismal ones that have followed even more yucky.

Day 325/365
Last night/day 325 storm Nemo finally hit Saginaw... about an hour before midnight. I went around the area with a reporter, (who thankfully offered to drive), and got photos of the first signs of all the doom and gloom. At one point we decided to check out the view from the top of one of the parking garages in downtown Saginaw, and I ended up putting together this panorama with the results. Day 321/365
When I was out and about running a few errands this past Sunday/day 321 I drove by Cheboygan Creek and saw that the layers of ice were piling up on one another to form large masses of the frozen chunks. It'll be interesting to check back on the creek and the river when all of that ice starts to melt...

Day 302/365
Yesterday/day 302 one of my assignments was touring the construction going on at a local power plant in the Bay City area. This particular facility used to be one of the worst sources of mercury pollution in the state of Michigan, but is currently updating pollution control equipment throughout the facility to be in compliance with new EPA guidelines that'll take effect in 2015. It was a pretty interesting tour, but my favorite part by far was getting to go up on the cat walk with one of the heads of construction. It was a great view, albeit an extremely cold one.

Day 224/365
I ended up having to work Monday night instead of having the day off as originally planned. I covered some high school sports and some early trick-or-treating, and a sad story about a family's dog who was killed by loose neighborhood dogs. I was in a weird mood after that one, but the amazing sunset managed to make up for it a bit.

Day 181/365
I spent a much-needed weekend off back home in Ohio, and spent almost all of it with my family. Sunday was spent going out to my mom's cabin and then visiting a few of the wineries out in that area. It was an absolutely beautiful day outside, and it's finally starting to feel like fall!

Day 127/365
Time to play some catchup. Things got a bit crazy yesterday and today, so I didn't get a chance to update until now. Yesterday afternoon was fantastic; I got to cover a story that a journalism intern was doing on a man who's started to offer kayak rentals at a park near Bay City. I literally got paid to go kayaking and taking pictures all of yesterday afternoon. It was the perfect day for it too: sunny but not too hot, with a great breeze on Saginaw Bay where we were kayaking. We saw tons of wildlife too: herons, egrets, turtles, loons, to name a few. It was definitely one of those days where I was reminded of just how much I absolutely love my job.

Day 98/365
I found it a little funny that the picture I ended up taking for today's post was quite similar to the one from yesterday, even though they were taken in different states. Today's photo is from outside the motel I'll be staying in tonight here in Saginaw. Here's hoping that I get into my apartment by tomorrow night; I don't know if I can handle another night of the bouquet of b.o. and stale cigarette smoke that my room smells like. At least I have the first day of my internship to look forward to tomorrow!

Day 97/365
Today did not go as planned. I was supposed to pick my car up from getting an oil change after my long road trip, drive up to Michigan to meet my landlord and get my keys to my apartment, and get as much moved in as possible so I'd be all ready to start my internship this Monday. Instead, there ended up being an issue with a sensor in my car that had to be fixed and took longer than expected, and my landlord wouldn't stay at the leasing office later to meet me, so I'm still in Ohio. I'll be driving up to Michigan tomorrow to stay at a motel overnight, since my landlord doesn't work on Sundays, and I'll just have to hopefully be able to pick my keys up sometime before/after/during my lunch break at work on Monday. Anyways, when I found all this out I was a bit stressed as to how to handle it so I went for a drive to calm down, hence this photo.
