Day 246/365

     Yesterday/Tuesday/day 246 was a bit of a let down. I was supposed to cover a high-profile preliminary hearing, but the FBI ending up taking over the case, making it federal, meaning no photos would be allowed. Anyways, one of the assignments I ended up shooting instead was an orchid greenhouse that a local woman fashioned out of her screened in porch. There's supposed to be a big orchid show put on by the Saginaw Valley Orchid Society this weekend, and the woman whose orchids I photographed will be showing a number of her plants.      Day 167/Sunday's post is a quick photo I took of one of the gardens in my apartment complex when my dog and I went for a walk during the day. I've always liked how echinacea flowers look, so I couldn't help but take a picture of these since they were in full bloom.

     We always know summer's on its way when the daylilies alongside our patio start opening up.

     I didn't have much time to shoot today, so I ended up taking a quick picture of my mom's potted hydrangeas. I have some shoot ideas for the next coming week, so my posts should be picking up here soon!

     Today's post is right out of one of my mom's gardens. She has quite a few different types of irises that grow throughout the backyard, but these dark purple ones have always been my favorite.

     There was a big display at the garden store next to our studio for Mother's Day today: tons of different bouquets and garden baskets and stuff like that. One of the employees was watering the lilies when I was in there on my break so I took a quick picture.

     Today my mom and I went back out to the cabin to finish up the yard work we started yesterday. It was beautiful out, and there were butterflies everywhere! I especially liked this Black Swallowtail that I took a picture of on my mom's azaleas.

     My mom and I went out to her cabin today to do some yard work. I got a quick picture of a little honey bee checking out some of the wildflowers before they were mowed down.

     I couldn't resist doing another dandelion post. We just mowed the lawn a few days ago, and already the weeds are back in full force. So, today I give you the evolution of the dandelion! We have them in all stages all around our yard.

Day 33/365

     It's officially dandelion season! While I can understand how they're not the prettiest of weeds or how they can be a pain to people who prefer perfectly-manicured lawns; I've always had a soft spot for dandelions. Growing up watching Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland repeatedly, making necklaces out of the flowers, and rubbing the pollen on people I didn't like are just a few of the nostalgic memories that I associate with dandelions. As cliché as it may be, I even have a tattoo that represents a Helen Barron Bostwick poem that likens a dandelion's plumes blowing away to birds flying off to become more. 

Day 23/365

 

     I was feeling more indecisive than usual, so I posted both a video and a photo from today's adventure. My mom, brother, and I went down to the Rockefeller Park Greenhouse in Cleveland this morning to check out all the flowers and plants that were in bloom. It was really cool; I'd never been there before. I definitely recommend going - especially with today's random snow dusting, it was nice to pretend it still felt like spring. 

Day 7/365

     Today was a long one; I worked at the portrait studio all morning and afternoon, and then came home and just about passed out as soon as I found my bed. Before I became officially dead to the world, I walked around my mom's gardens and ended up taking this picture of the forsythia bush in our backyard. I'm not too thrilled with it to be honest, but I'll make it my mission to find something more interesting for tomorrow's post.

     Today's entry is a two-for-one! My mom's next-door neighbor is out of town this week so we've been taking care of her mail for her. Tonight when I walked over to her yard as the sun was just starting to set I took a few quick pictures of her magnolia tree and put together this diptych!
