Yesterday/Tuesday/day 246 was a bit of a let down. I was supposed to cover a high-profile preliminary hearing, but the FBI ending up taking over the case, making it federal, meaning no photos would be allowed. Anyways, one of the assignments I ended up shooting instead was an orchid greenhouse that a local woman fashioned out of her screened in porch. There's supposed to be a big orchid show put on by the Saginaw Valley Orchid Society this weekend, and the woman whose orchids I photographed will be showing a number of her plants. To see a few more orchid photos, you can find a gallery on MLive here.

Day 152/365
I'm spending this weekend back in Ohio. After the not-so great past week and-a-half, I jumped at the chance to switch three-day-weekends with another photo intern at work in order to come home last night. Today we went out to some family friends' place out in West Farmington for a frisbee-dog weekend they have each summer. It's a weekend filled with camping, eating, drinking, and playing with dogs - what more could you want? Anyways, we helped them pick corn from their garden for dinner, (pretty much the best sweet corn I've ever had; talk about "farm to table!"), and I stopped to take a picture of their sunflowers. Their sunflowers are so tall that it was easy to stand under one to get today's beautiful blue sky in the background. Today was a good day, and was definitely needed. I'm sure I got some decent frisbee-dog photos, but I'm about ready to pass out so I'll be sure to post a link to them here tomorrow.

Day 132/365
Today's post is came about from my multiple trips to the laundry room in my apartment complex. There are all different kinds of flowers planted throughout the various beds in the complex, and there are a particularly funky kind by the laundry room closest to my building. They just started to get more vibrant this week it seems, so on my trip back to switch my clothes over to the dryer I took a quick picture. At the risk of being repetitive, anyone have any idea what kind of flower/plant this is?
***EDIT: My mom came through again and let me know that the pictured plant is a Blue Thistle!

Day 128/365
Today was one of those days were I feel like I just kept moving from place to place. I usually like to keep busy, but I just didn't have the energy level today so it made for a long one. This is a photo I took in a Bay City resident's backyard; they won a city-wide beautification award, which was rightfully earned. I've never seen so many different plants in one place. I thought this plant was the strangest and most unique of the ones I saw today, so I took a quick picture. Any guesses as to what it is?
**EDIT** Thanks to my mother's infinite knowledge of all things botanical, this plant is called a Passion Flower.
