Day 227/365

Thursday/day 227 was yet another volleyball game for me to cover. That made three games in one five-day work week that I had to shoot. It was a finals game so I'm hoping upon hope that the end is nigh.

Day 226/365

Tonight I covered another volleyball game. I don't really know what to say about them anymore; I've covered so many it seems like. Nothing against the sport or anyone who plays it personally, but I can't say I'll miss it all that much once the season's over.

Day 221/365

Last night/Friday was a football night. This is the first week of high school playoffs in Michigan, and the game I covered last night was between two Saginaw high schools. One of the schools was making their first playoff appearance for the first time ever in the school's history, but unfortunately they lost pretty badly. It was quite an exciting game though, so much so that I was literally one step away from getting knocked out at one point when a defender tackled a receiver on the sidelines. Luckily the TV cameramen had left already...

Day 220/365

Tonight I covered my first swim meet, and while it didn't frustrate me as much as shooting volleyball does, it wasn't all that far off. Something else to work on!

Day 219/365

Tonight was a frustrating one, as I had to shoot a volleyball quad, (four teams holding two matches at the same time). I swear I will figure out how to shoot this sport properly if it's the last thing I do. I'm at the point where I almost prefer shooting golf to volleyball...

Day 218/365

Yesterday/Tuesday marked the beginning of fall sports playoffs coverage for the high schools in the Saginaw News and Bay City Times coverage areas. I covered the regional semifinals for boys soccer, which were held near Lansing. The two games I covered last night were easily the most interesting soccer games I've seen, (admittedly, the only ones I've seen are the high school ones I've covered up here). Each game had between two and three goals scored within the first five minutes, so they were definitely action-packed.

Day 196/365

I'm working the night shift this week, which means you'll probably be seeing a good amount of high school sports coverage. Tonight's assignment was a boys soccer game at the high school down the street from my apartment. The only soccer games I've ever been to have been the few I've covered up here in Michigan, so I'm still getting the hang of shooting the sport, but I think I'm improving. It also helped that tonight's game was by far the most interesting one I think I've seen; lots of flipping and rolling and diving from the guys makes for some pretty easy photo opportunities.

Day 185/365

Today's post is from a cross country invitational I covered this afternoon in Frankenmuth. I still can't get over the facial expressions that so many runners have when they're racing. Between challenging each other to the finish line, like these two here did, or trying not to get sick, it's always entertaining to see the range of expressions that each of them seem to carry.

Day 177/365

Tonight I was assigned a high school volleyball game. It was easily one of the most frustrating assignments I've had so far as trying to find a good place to shoot from. The gym the match was at tonight was incredibly small, with packed bleachers, and about six inches of space around the court left for me to be in. It definitely did not produce my best work, but it was a learning experience. Hopefully the next time I shoot volleyball I'll be able to improve based on what I got out of today's shoot.

Day 176/365

Tonight I covered a cross country meet. It was at a park nearby that had a small pond and quite a few hills, so it was at least visually different as far as the course went. These were the two photos I liked the most, and when it came to posting today's entry I just couldn't pick between them, so day 176 is a diptych! Day 175/365

Tonight I covered a high school boys soccer game. I'm not much of a soccer fan, (though I will say that I'll take it over golf any day of the week), but the way these guys played tonight seemed more akin to rugby, so I was pleasantly surprised. I liked this photo the most out of the ones I took tonight. At first glance when I was editing I thought the Heritage player was getting pantsed. He's not, but I tend to sometimes have the same sense of humor as an eight year-old boy so it's still my favorite for that very reason.

Day 171/365

Thursday's post was courtesy of another golf outing I was assigned. This time it was high school girls golf, a "jamboree" actually, so at least there was somewhat of a change of pace. It was at least a beautiful day, so walking around the Bay County Golf Course for a few hours wasn't all that bad, even if it was to take pictures of people golfing!
