Tonight I covered "Holidays in the Heart of the City," a Christmas festival in Saginaw. It started with the lighting ceremony of all the Christmas lights in downtown and Old Town Saginaw, and ended with a fireworks display off of Ojibway Island. In between there were living nativity scenes, gingerbread house-decorating competitions, live reindeer, Santa and Mrs. Claus walking around, free tours of the zoo, and trolley and horse-drawn carriage rides. Guess which part I liked best.

Day 145/365
Today I was originally supposed to cover the last day of the Bay County Fair, but what I really ended up covering was how the Bay County Fair got cut short due to all the flooding in Bay City since it's rained so much this past week. It was pretty interesting to see carnival rides sinking into the mud and carnival workers wading their way through standing water to take everything apart. Definitely unlike any carnival I've ever been to!

Day 115/365
I can now say I've seen a cage fight in person... not sure how I feel about that exactly. The whole experience was a bit surreal. It was going on at a town festival I was covering too, which, to me, seems insane. Carnival rides, novelty food, games and prizes.... and cage fighting? I don't get it. Nevertheless, it was interesting, and the fact that I'm being paid to photograph things like this that I've never seen before makes me indescribably happy.
