Day 241/365

Tonight was a quiet one at work. All I covered was a fire that happened at the scene of what used to be a barn full of hay, that first burned down last night. Somehow the pile of debris caught on fire again  tonight, so I went out to Richland Township and got a not-so-great photo as close as I could get to the blaze, (which wasn't very).

Day 214/365

Yesterday/Friday/day 214 one of my assignments was to try and get a few portraits of some local Bay City area firefighters. There's a proposal currently being looked over for the area where the police and fire departments would be combined in an attempt to save money. Police officers would be trained to handle fires, but firefighters wouldn't be trained as officers, resulting in the fire department having to go through lay offs but not the police. Understandably so, this has morale at the fire departments at an all time low. Many of the firefighters we talked to have said that they've been losing employees each year due to cuts and feel like they're being mistreated.

Day 184/365

Today was pretty quiet as far as news went. I ended up covering a gas leak during the day, where a construction crew's excavator accidentally ruptured the gas main. The gas company's crew and local firefighters had to spend a bit of time getting the leak to stop, and then were eventually able to repair the line.
